Dichromated-gelatin hologram process for improved optical quality

    Get PDF
Optical distortions are eliminated by use of wetting agency followed by sequential immersion in several alcohol-water baths of increasing alcohol concentration. Dehydration proceeds uniformly over surface of gelatin. Dried plate is free of optically-distorting thickness variations

Data Processing In The Texas A & M University Library

    Get PDF
The Texas A & M University Library embraced automation as a way of life when it became the first library in the Southwest to employ a Data Processing Supervisor as a full-time Library staff member in September, 1964. The creation of such a position as part of the Library staff was only one of several favorable circumstances which combined to provide the necessary foundation for the achievements outlined in this paper. In addition to an enthusiastic University administration which provided requested supplemental funds for a special conversion project, the Library has access to the University's centralized data processing facility, which is one of the largest such University installations in the Southwest. The Data Processing Center houses an IBM 7094-1401 computer system with 14 magnetic tape drives, two separate off-line 1401 tape systems (one with a 1404 printer), and a battery of high speed sorters, collators, and card punches. This tremendous hardware capability has proved to be a great asset to our automation program.published or submitted for publicatio

In construction of page-organized holographic memories, it is necessary to provide collimated laser beam which can be deflected parallel to itself. This is used for selecting stored holograms from two-dimensional array. Three-lens system significantly reduces optical path length

Coexisting Values in Healthcare and the Leadership Practices That Were Found to Inspire Followership Among Healthcare Practitioners

    Get PDF
Healthcare delivery in the United States has a storied history that has led the American public to expect that their Health Care Practitioners (HCPs) will personally and professionally enact values such as altruism, benevolence, equality, and capability. A progressive set of events that involves the implementation of the market-based solution in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has led healthcare organizations to become increasingly concerned with a conceptually different set of values. It has become more necessary for healthcare organizations to dedicate attention to market values (e.g., competition; productivity) as they operate in an environment that is commonly described as a $3.3T industry. There is significant concern that important care values are being sacrificed as the U.S. health system becomes increasingly commercialized. It is also believed that HCPs are experiencing increasing levels of demoralization and burnout as a result of their inability to realize their personal and professional care value preferences. A qualitative investigation into the experiences of a selection of HCPs served to reveal how the administration in a large health system fosters compatibility among personal, professional, and market value priorities via an application of the tenets of values-based leadership. Study outcomes also feature implications for both the servant leadership and transformational leadership constructs

An application of semigroup theory to a fragmentation equation

    Get PDF
The process of fragmentation arises in many physical situations, including polymer degradation, droplet breakage and rock crushing and grinding. Under suitable assumptions, the evolution of the size distribution c(x, t), where x represents particle size and t is time, may be described by the linear integro-differential equation

    NASA Research in Aeropropulsion

    Get PDF
The role of the Lewis Research Center in aeronautical propulsion is described. The state of the art in engine systems and components are discussed and some of the problems that confront the civil and military aeronautic sectors are addressed. Some of the programs that are under way are summarized with emphasis on the future needs and opportunities in aeronautics

A momentum subtraction scheme for two--nucleon effective field theory

We introduce a momentum subtraction scheme which obeys the power counting of Kaplan, Savage, and Wise (KSW), developed for systems with large scattering lengths, aa. Unlike the power divergence subtraction scheme, coupling constants in this scheme obey the KSW scaling for all μR>1/a\mu_R > 1/a. We comment on the low-energy theorems derived by Cohen and Hansen. We conclude that there is no obstruction to using perturbative pions for momenta p>mπp>m_\pi.Comment: 12 pages, 3 fig

Lunar optical telescopes: An historical perspective

    Get PDF
There is a long history of thought and discussion on the possibilities of astronomical observatories on the Moon. Numerous ideas have been suggested and a variety of concepts have resulted for lunar optical telescopes. This paper reviews some of the ideas and efforts of individuals and working groups including Hershel, Clarke, Malina, Herbig, and Hess; working groups of the 1960s; and recent initiatives of Burke, Burns, and others. The enhanced technologies of the 1980s and 1990s can make past dreams of lunar observatories come to reality in the 21st century
